The Psoas: Exploring Movement, Breath & Inner Awareness

An Experiential Exploration of Anatomy, the Koshas & the Subtle Body with Leila Stuart

Discover the psoas, often called the body’s “great connector”, and explore how this deep core muscle influences far more than movement alone.

In this experiential three-hour workshop, internationally recognized yoga therapist and educator Leila Stuart will guide you through a fascinating exploration of the psoas and its relationship to posture, movement, breath, energy, emotional patterns, groundedness, and awareness.

Using guided movement, somatic inquiry, and interoceptive awareness practices, you’ll learn to experience the psoas from the inside rather than simply studying it as an anatomical structure.

The workshop will also introduce the koshas, the five interconnected layers of human experience described in yogic philosophy. Through the psoas, we’ll explore how physical anatomy, breath and energy, emotions, awareness, and our deeper sense of self are interconnected.

What You’ll Explore

  • Experience and sense the psoas through guided movement and awareness practices

  • Understand why the psoas is often referred to as the body’s “great connector”

  • Explore its relationship to posture, movement, breathing, and core support

  • Learn how physical anatomy connects with breath, energy, and the subtle body

  • Explore the koshas as a practical framework for understanding embodied experience

  • Investigate the relationship between the psoas, protective patterns, emotional holding, and groundedness

  • Develop practical ways to bring greater psoas awareness into yoga, movement, and daily life

This workshop is open to curious yoga students, yoga teachers, movement teachers, therapists, and bodyworkers interested in exploring anatomy through both a physical and experiential lens.
