Returning to the Practice of Self-Care

There is a particular kind of pause that many of us are longing for.

Not the pause that comes from collapsing at the end of a busy week. Not the pause that happens only when we have finally done enough, given enough, achieved enough, or pushed ourselves past the point of exhaustion.

But a more intentional pause.

A pause that allows us to come back into relationship with ourselves.

This is at the heart of The Self Care Practice, a 3-hour workshop with Mikki at Live Yoga Studio in White Rock.

Self-care is often spoken about as something simple or surface level. A bath. A treat. A moment of rest. And while those things can be beautiful and necessary, the deeper practice of self-care asks something more of us. It asks us to listen. To become honest about what we need. To notice the ways we abandon ourselves, judge ourselves, or move through life disconnected from the wisdom of the body.

In this way, self-care becomes more than an activity. It becomes a spiritual practice.

It becomes a way of returning.

Through grounding asanas, pranayama, meditation, and reflection, The Self Care Practice invites you to slow down and reconnect with the parts of yourself that may have been waiting for your attention. This workshop is not about perfecting your yoga practice or adding more to your list of things to do. It is about softening the constant striving and creating space for awareness, compassion, and inner steadiness.

Mikki will guide you through practices designed to help you feel rooted and present. Grounding postures will support you in coming back to the body. Breathwork will help create space and clarity. Meditation will offer an opportunity to listen inward. Throughout the afternoon, you will be invited to explore what self-care means for you, not as an idea, but as a lived and embodied practice.

One of the most powerful parts of this work is learning to release self-judgment.

So often, we believe we need to be different before we are worthy of care. More disciplined. More healed. More calm. More spiritual. More together.

But self-care begins exactly where we are.

It begins with the willingness to meet ourselves honestly and kindly. To recognize what is asking for nourishment. To notice the patterns that pull us away from balance. To choose, again and again, practices that support our wellbeing rather than deplete it.

For those drawn to yoga as more than movement, this workshop offers a meaningful opportunity to deepen your connection to the inner dimensions of practice. It is a space for students who are curious about breath, meditation, energy, self-awareness, and the quiet wisdom that becomes available when we slow down enough to listen.

Mikki Kinnaird brings a grounded and intuitive presence to this work. As a 400-hour Registered Yoga Teacher, Reiki Practitioner, Indigenous Healer, and Tarot Reader, she holds a deep belief that everyone carries inner strength and unique gifts. Her approach invites students to reconnect with that inner strength and move forward with more balance, awareness, and loving kindness.

You may come to this workshop because you are tired.
You may come because you are craving stillness.
You may come because something in you knows it is time to tend to yourself in a more meaningful way.

However you arrive, The Self Care Practice offers a space to pause, listen inward, and begin creating simple practices that can support your life beyond the mat.

Because self-care is not something we earn.

It is a relationship we cultivate.

And sometimes, the most powerful step we can take is to stop, breathe, and remember that we are worthy of our own care.

The Self Care Practice with Mikki takes place at Live Yoga on Saturday, May 23, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. The cost is $44 + GST, and pre-registration is required.
