Find Your Calm: Why the Wednesday 7 pm Candlelight Restorative Class is a Gift to Your Body & Mind
In our fast-moving world, the nights when we slow down are the ones that truly replenish us. That’s exactly what our Candlelight Restorative Yoga class brings: a sanctuary of softness, stillness and gentle support.
What is Restorative Yoga?
Relax in Candlelight Restorative Yoga
Restorative yoga is a practice where we lean into deep rest. Using plenty of props — bolsters, blankets, blocks and sometimes a wall or chair. The body is fully supported as we hold a handful of purposeful postures for several minutes each. This allows muscles, joints and tendons to soften, the nervous system to shift, and the mind to settle. Verywell Fit+2Wikipedia+2
Because the practice is gentle and accessible, it’s a perfect complement to more active workouts, busy weeks, or simply when your nervous system needs some caring attention. Verywell Fit+1
The Science-Backed Benefits You’ll Feel
1. Activates your “rest & digest” mode
Restorative yoga helps shift from the ‘fight or flight’ (sympathetic) nervous state into the ‘rest and digest’ (parasympathetic) mode. This is when your heart rate slows, your blood vessels relax, and your body begins repair and recovery. Healthline+1
2. Lowers stress & calms the mind
Studies show that even when compared to passive stretching, restorative yoga can more effectively reduce stress hormone levels (like cortisol) and help with stress perception. PMC+1
For example, one study showed measurable reductions in salivary cortisol in people practising restorative yoga. PMC
3. Improves sleep + enhances mood
Because your nervous system is calmed and your body is allowed to release tension, many participants report better sleep, improved mood and a sense of wellbeing. Verywell Fit+1
4. Gentle on the body but powerful in effect
Unlike high-impact classes, restorative yoga is very accessible — you’re supported fully, holding poses long enough to let your tissues open and your mind quiet. Healthline This makes it an ideal class for those recovering from hard workouts (or workout‐avoidant!), stressed professionals or anyone simply craving mindful rest.
Why Our Wednesday Candlelight Class is Special
Time – 7-8:15pm mid-week is perfect to transition from productivity to rest: you’ll arrive a little early, breathe in, and leave the lights of the world behind. You can also get to bed on time!
Atmosphere – The soft candlelight, gentle music, and props set a tone of calm. Your body and mind get the message: it’s safe to drop in.
Support + simplicity – You’re fully supported. No need to push, just settle. With props and cues designed to help you relax, you’ll leave feeling like you've had a mini-retreat.
Recovery focus – Whether you’ve had an intense day at work or an intense workout, this is the class that says: “Let’s restore now, so we can perform tomorrow.”
