Meet Courtenay Chow!
A huge welcome to our newest teacher Courtenay, who is taking over the Saturday at 12:00 pm class. WE look you’re going to love her classes!
Courtenay lives in Surrey with her husband and two boys, Micah and Noah. She has been practicing Iyengar yoga for more than 18 years and is very excited for the opportunity to teach at Live Yoga. Her favourite thing about her yoga practice are the moments of quiet and steadiness she can find within the asanas. She is currently mentoring with The Yoga Space Vancouver and Louie Ettling to become a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher. Hint hint: You may be familiar with this style/lineage of yoga if you have taken a class with Sean or Akshey!
Check out our Q&A with Courtenay so you can get to know her:
Where are you from? Anything to share about your family/upbringing?
I was born and raised in Nelson, BC, a little town in the Kootenays.
What made you fall in love with yoga?
The very first time I attempted Half Moon pose (supported against the wall and using a block), I felt like I was flying. And for a wonderful, brief moment the constant internal monologue in my head went quiet. I knew then that I had discovered something profound and magical with this yoga practice.
How has yoga impacted your life?
My yoga practice has had such a profound impact on my life! As someone who regularly battles with "worry monsters," using my yoga practise as a tool to calm and quiet my mind has been a huge blessing.
What style of yoga/lineage of yoga do you teach?
I teach Iyengar yoga
What inspires you to share yoga with others?
My yoga practice has such a positive impact on my mental and emotional well-being, and I would love to give others the opportunity to benefit the same way.
What is something students might not know about you?
Yoga is my first love but my second love is music, particularly singing. I play piano and am a member of a local women's chamber choir, Aura Women's Choir, based in White Rock.
Anything else you would like students to know about your classes?
I love to use a variety of props to make each pose accessible for everyone. And I don't always take myself seriously so expect a bit of humour in my class!
Be sure to check out Courtenay’s class and Happy New Year!
