Bringing the Community Together with Yoga
There's an undeniable magic in gathering amidst nature to partake in a yoga session while immersing oneself in the surrounding beauty. Beyond being an investment in physical health, these sessions yield mental and spiritual benefits by fostering a sense of togetherness in the great outdoors. Each year, Live Yoga Studio proudly hosts complimentary outdoor yoga classes on the iconic White Rock Pier and the scenic Bayview Park.
Our mission is simple: to extend a warm invitation to individuals of all backgrounds and skill levels, ensuring an inclusive, beginner-friendly yoga experience for everybody. In an industry often perceived as exclusive to a particular demographic often excluding those who don't fit the “fitness” stereotype leads to barriers such as age, body image, flexibility, or past injuries which deter participation. This highlights the importance of fostering inclusivity and adapting practices to accommodate diverse needs. Live Yoga has diligently worked to redefine yoga as a practice accessible to all. Breaking down these barriers that may hinder participation, we encourage adapting poses to accommodate individual needs and foster an student agency for an enjoyable yoga experience. At Live Yoga, we firmly believe that every individual deserves to feel at ease in their own body, and our classes reflect this commitment.
Last year's Yoga on the Pier event drew over 100 attendees, comprising not only local residents and families but also tourists from South America and who serendipitously stumbled upon the class. The overwhelming success of the event has left us eagerly anticipating this year's two events planned for July 13 and August 17 2024.
Sean O'Leary, owner of Live Yoga and a Certified Iyengar Yoga teacher, emphasizes the significance of such community events. "Hosting these free outdoor sessions serves a dual purpose," he explains. "They not only unite individuals from diverse backgrounds to experience the joys of yoga but also serve as a reminder of the beauty that surrounds us. Yoga’s purpose is not just physical improvement but a tool to quite the mind. Amidst the tranquility that follows a rewarding yoga session, we're reminded to appreciate the natural splendor that envelops us. Doing this together makes for an unforgettable experience!"
This year, we anticipate welcoming 200 participants to our Yoga on the Pier event on Saturday, July 13, promising an unforgettable yoga experience for all. Likewise, our Saturday, August 17 Yoga at the Beach class, set against the breathtaking backdrop of Bayview Park, offers a serene setting for a rejuvenating session. Natures Fare Markets will be onsite, generously providing gift bags to attendees. We also love giving away some prizes and free classes to our studio at these events.
These free outdoor yoga classes are open to all, with registration available through the Live Yoga website to secure a spot. Given the popularity of last year's events, we encourage early registration to avoid disappointment.
